- We start up on September 11th and 12th (Registration Nights) where there WILL be a program running at the same time.
- If there is interest in the area, the 135th Ottawa Sea Scout Troop would be overjoyed to make it's triumphant return. If we can get 5 youth, aged 11-14 involved, St. Stephen's will be official home to the Sea Scouts once more after a brief hiatus.
- In relation to point #2, Gerry Mason, aka Grey Brother, has offered to instruct our potential Sea Scouts until such time that a "younger" replacement can be found. (Oh, Grey Brother, you can't fool us. You can't be a Day over 25!)
- Again, if there is interest in the area, the 135th Sea Venturer Company is interested in re-forming. Venturers is aged 15-17 (ages blurred for maturity, Company size etc.) Venturers is a fabulous opportunity for high-school aged youth to earn volunteer hours, meet friends, develop social skills, and have an awesome time. The Motto of the Venturer is "Challenge"!
- The 135th is also looking to be host to an OFFICIAL Sea Rover Crew. Rovers is the level above Venturers, (18+, until about 26, again with blurred age lines). Rovers is an excellent program designed for young adults to make friends, have adventures and help provide service to the Scouting movement. (Technically, our leaders fall into Rover age-range. Guess who the first members are?)
- Invention of the goal-oriented Beaver Program. This is something that won't be found in many other places. We find that our younger members need a challenge if they so desire. Therefore, we are working on a program that rewards our Beavers more fairly. We want to have our Beavers earn stripes for different activities and projects. It's similar to the Cub Badges, but at an age-appropriate level.
- The number of theme days, outdoor days, hopefully camps, and other fun things is INCREASING this year!
- We plan to participate in many more area-wide events like sled trips, camps, the White Tail Sleepover (providing we have a few interested Beavers) and much more!
- It's Centennial Year (100 Years of Scouting) so look out for all the celebrations!!! |
