  2             pounds  onions -- thinly sliced
  2        tablespoons  butter -- or more if needed
  1                cup  milk
  1                cup  heavy cream
  3                     eggs
                        nutmeg -- to taste

1. Remove egg from refrigerator 30 minutes before using.

2. Preheat the oven to 400 deg.

3. Fry onions in butter until transparent, about 20 minutes.

4. Combine the remaining ingredients, fold in onions. Pour into pie crust.

5. Bake for 30 minutes, or until set.
