Well we were not able to find the "pre-existing" home that we had originally hoped for when we started to looking for a home. Thus we decided after much debate and consturnation to build a home. Are we crazy? Probably. Will we make it.. YES! So that is what this whole site is about. Since I did not start doing this diary till we were well into the construction process I will try to reconstruct my thoughts as best as I can recall. To start off searching I would drive around and just look for homes that were for sale and had open houses. I saw many that I thought would be good but after further evaluation Jean and I decided that maybe they were not what we wanted, thus I kept looking and looking. At one point in time I walked into an open house and meet Candi who I started to work with to get a home. We still could not find a home and then we discovered that the homes that Cherry Hill had were more of what we wanted. We still looked at many homes where we found a lot of things that we liked so we decided to purchase a new home from Cherry Hill. We signed on the bottom line on August 13, 2002 so there is no backing out now. Working with Candi at Krein Realty we decided on the "Nebraska" model for our home selection. We made some changes to the basic model, such as a sliding glass door in the bedroom, a balcony outside the bedroom, long windows in the living room, and wood floor in the dining room. Immediately we got excited but then came the realization that we needed to pick out siding, brick, and shingles before Jean could get here. And they left that up to Roger... someone who cannot make a decision without thinking it over for several hours or maybe it was days. But finally the decision was made and everything was then beginning. Until..... It was upon visiting the house that we discovered that the front of the house was not being built the way that we thought that it was going to be built, so we had to meet with the builder to discuss our options. After about an hour and a half talk we decided to change the front to show the windows more toward the center with a small roof over both of them. The front of the garage will be entirely made of the brick which may be ok. It is not entirely what we want but it is what we are going to buy, as I suppose no matter what we do there will always be some kind of change. |
