The child and his lamb...together each day, through all that they did...together would stay! The little lamb's coat...all wooly and white, the two in their play...made such a fine sight! But Passover came...the pattern was laid, the alter prepared...for sacrifice made! The little boy's lamb...was destined to die, a pure sacrifice...when morning drew nigh! The lad held him close...and prayed all night long, to lose his dear lamb...seemed so very wrong! The sun angled high...when he did awake, he'd slept as the priest...his lamb came to take! But seems as the time...for his lamb came to die, as it's feet were trussed...and the knife was held high! A voice deep and strong...at once stopped the hand, no longer required...it was God's command! Now you should have seen...those eyes fill with tears, the biggest of smiles...in all his six years! He wiped them away...though freely they came, he hugged him and said..."Now, Easter's your name!" For on Easter Day...God gave you to me, and it was His blood...that now sets us free! And just for a moment...it seemed very true, a tear could be seen...in Easter's eye too! + + + + © C. E.
