A statue makes a mighty crash That wakes up half the world Freedom rings throughout the city Smiling faces are unfurled A wounded bird will spread its wings Prepared to fly again Brothers and sister all rejoice Soldiers came to ease their pain Flags that once were tinder Used to burn in effigy Become a symbol of rebirth In a country that will soon be free A hero here to do his job Once hated as the devil To man Now is a symbol of freedom In the brotherhood of man We hate we hurt we kill in war But we learn to love in peace Repression finds a passion When it's finally released Visions of a smiling child Give us hope for the future years Tomorrow brings a better day With the shedding of fewer tears Now a wounded bird can fly After the scars have healed And people get to live again And lies no longer concealed I see the skies are clearing As the clouds of war fade away Free as a bird the eagle Flies Side by side With a mourning dove And peace brings a better day On a western breeze Freedom embraced with love (c) Bill Lindenmuth aka Easyrhymer, 2003 |
