 "It is better to fight for freedom, then to be a prisoner all the days of your life." -Bob Marley. Although Bob meant fight in a different way, it is still the saying Duke uses before every assassination he performs. But, We have gone to far, lets start at the beginning shall we?

From the age of ten minutes old to the age of 10 years of age, Duke was in training to become a Kei assassin. The Kei decided to start training assassins from birth because they felt that if you can make someone kill by instinct, that is good. If you can make someone kill by reflex, thats awesome.  Its not that the Kei enjoyed just sending assassins out to kill whoever was closest for the fun of it, or that the Kei even thought that they would need an assassin every five minutes. The Kei just simply wanted the men for the job when it came up. 

Even though the children were trained for the first ten years of their lives, this did not mean they were dormant from the outside world. While in training the young killers went all over the galaxy seeing all kinds of places and meeting all sorts of people. This the Kei thought, would help them hone their people skills and also keep them from being freaks. As stated before, the assassins weren't on the job every ten minutes, a lot of the time they would be hanging out in the cities. The Kei also put the children through schools, they felt that no Kei should be illiterate, even if all they had to do was be silent and kill. 

After Duke left training he wanted to see more of the places his training had shown him. He liked traveling, and thought he could do all kinds of things in-between hits, and he really wanted to experience all he could in life. He is an assassination, but he also considers himself a human being as well, no matter how farfetched that may be. 

He still trains, he has to. Three of the Ten kids in his group have been killed while on their first missions, and he too had to abort his first mission and allow a better assassin to take care of his target. A young girl caught the hit as he was running away from Decolder. She shot him in the face and was considered the best in her class of assassins. One year later Duke killed her.
