Awards and Decorations

As is typical with military organizations, the Blackhawks award several decorations and ribbons for special or valorous service.

Order of the Star League

The highest honor bestowed by the Blackhawks organization is the Order of the Star League (OSL).  This award is given in recognition of extreme and conspicuous gallantry in action in the face of overwhelming odds that proves critical to victory or the saving of one's unit from destruction.  As is the case with such high honors, most recipients are awarded the OSL posthumously.  There are currently only 14 active members of the  Blackhawks that are recipients of the OSL.

Warrior's Cross

The Warrior's Cross is the Blackhawks second highest honor.  This decoration is awarded in recognition of exceptional performance and consistent acts of valor on the battlefield.

Order of the Hawk

The Order of the Hawk is the select Martial Order of the Blackhawks.  Membership to the order is reserved for those who have established a firm history and reputation for superior service to the Blackhawks.

Crimson Star

Combat Star

Service Medal

The Crimson Star is awarded for wounds and injuries sustained during combat operations.

The Combat Star is awarded in recognition of service in a major combat operation whether offensive or defensive.

The service medal is awarded for extended service to the Blackhawks. The first medal is given after five years of service.  A silver star cluster is added for each subsequent five years of service.
