Cheatham Hill Marker- Picnic Area on Cheatham Hill Road, just southeast of where it cuts off from John Ward Road- looking east- Marker describes how the 5 Federal Brigades began their assault from this approximate position at 8 am on 6/27/64 and advanced eastward approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the Confederate position on top of Cheatham Hill. The 26th OVI was in Wagner's Brigade which began its attack to the north ( left ) of the marker about 1/4 mile. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Cheatham Hill- 26th OVI Approximate Second Position- looking east approximately 100 yards east of the John Ward Rd and approximately 1/3 mile south of Dallas Highway. Confederate Position is about 1/4 mile east in the woods in the background. Terrain is generally flat with a few rises. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

26th OVI Advance Position on Cheatham Hill- Photo taken in woods approximately 50 yards from the Confederate Positions looking east. General Patrick Cleburne commanded the Confederate forces at this position. Terrain at this point is just slightly sloping upward as you move eastward. |

Cheatham Hill- Confederate Earthworks- looking south- Dead Angle is about 75 yards due south of this position. Scale is hard to see in photo, but even today, the earthworks are 3-4 feet high. This area is at the crest of the hill. |
