Richmond VA Prisons
Most of the 26th OVI soldiers who were taken prisoner during the war, were captured at the Battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 19-20, 1863. For nearly all of them, their first imprisonment was in one of the Richmond Va prisons.  Shown below is the Crew and Castle Pemberton Prisons ( from left to right).  Photos were taken shortly after the end of the war.  Their imprisonment in Richmond was for from 2-3 months.  Most of them were then sent south to Danville, Va.
