The quality of the sound from the turntable depends on many factors, most important being speed accuracy, arm quality, quality of pickup cartridge, complete freedom from accoustic feedback, and so forth...not to mention record quality itself. Lp's, if taken care of, can sound much better than cd's, especialy if those cd's were made in the dawn of digital era from aged noisy master tapes. When it comes to 80ties rock music I listen to, lp's are an original direct analog copy of recording section, which will allways sound better on lp's than nowadays reissues on cd's. Thus most of my rock collection is on lp's. In case of classical music, however, there is no original, unless you insist on certain late artist whose analog recordings you prefere. Lately there has been great advancement in digital recording quality. Thus most of my classical collection is on cd's. Inspite of that, lp's are fun and I certainly plan to keep them around. |

This is my second turntable, it too uses Technics SP-25 linear quartz locked motor, cartridge is Audiotechnica AT-OC9, arm is TESLA PU1101, made in Czechoslovakia, the best arm TESLA ever made. It uses other Ortofon step-up trafo T-10. I made a number of RIAA preamps myself. One of them is pictured lower. |

Here is a pic of some step up transformers I use. Ortofon, Grado and Audiotechnica. Surpriseingly I like the sound of Ortofon T-10 in combination with Audiotechnica AT-OC9, rather than with Audiotechnica step up. | |||||||||||||||||||
