RELAXER - THE LAST DAYS
I must first commend the natural sistahs who took the plunge and cut their relaxers out, down to only a few inches of hair. I grew my relaxer out to about 12-15 inches, then I finally cut it. I kept my new growth pressed most of the time. I didnt document my transition but I went through old photographs to rekindle the journey in my head. Here's my transition story.
At this time, I was already growing my relaxer out. I asked my stylist for a blond coloring in the front. This is not quite what I had in mind but she gave me exactly what I asked for. I couldn't wait for it to grow out! Now I had two tasks....grow out the rest of the relaxer and the awful color.
Around this time, I discovered the shake & go and the Black N Sassy Creamy Set. I fell in love at first sight. It was so easy. It would become my signature style between pressing....oh that and my ponytail. I am pictured here with my neice.
I continued to press as it coninued to grow. I got my ends trimmed periodically. I do mean periodically.
Here is another breather between presses. Black N Sassy Creamy Set again! (Its all I knew) It's a shake & go with a little more length. I was still holding on to those blond ends!
YAY! It was getting long but the color was getting tired!
Another breather... I wouldnt let go of the  pressing comb so there were straight strands lurking in there. UGH!

I was getting tired of the blond ends so I asked my stylist for something new. This was it, a cellophane. I didnt like it at first..I thought it was too bold...it grew on me.

We all know that cellophanes are temporary, right? Well by mid '99, the more I washed it , the red cellophane combined with the permanent blond color underneath started to look orange. It looked awful.(It must have been bad, I couldnt find any pictures show it) That expedited my plans. I got it cut (not trimmed) at my next salon visit. Thus left with no color, no relaxer.
I got these soft  blond *highlights*.
