Healthful Ways to Deal with Anger

Expressing anger in safe, nondestructive ways can help to reduce the risk of hurting yourself or someone else.

  • Channel your energies into productive work or recreational activities
  • Get away by yourself
  • Have a good cry
  • Do hard physical exercise
  • Punch a pillow or punching bag
  • Count to ten slowly. Take a deep breath as you do, and then slowly exhale to the count of ten.
  • Call a friend and talk it out
  • Close your eyes and listen to good music
  • Write down exactly how you are feeling and why-no one needs to see what you write
