Knights of Columbus
Council No. 10901
May 2002
From the desk of the Grand Knight...........
Automobile license plates bearing the Knights of Columbus emblem will be available for your car. To order one, send your name, address, telephone number, county of residence, current tag number, and check to Eddie Metrejean. The check should be payable to Knights of Columbus State Council in the amount of $30.00. $30 is the MS annual special tag fee, 24 of which is returned to the K of C state council to be used by the Bishops to offset the cost of tuition for our seminarians. So this is a great way to support vocations.
Lets welcome our newest Knights, Tom Taylor and Ray Stasiak. We hope you can join us often.
At the State Convention held in Hattiesburg, Brother Peter Sukanek was elected to his second term as Mississippi State Warden. Council 10901 was recognized for its participation in the Holly Springs Yellow Fever Church fund raising, and for membership in the 4th degree. Also we earned the Honor Council award through our activities. One of our programs was even recognized as Best Council Program in the State of Mississippi. Please continue your good works, and grow the activities where you can.
We had another successful Tootsie Roll Drive thanks to Mark Shows organization and the time you volunteered. You collected over $1700 to benefit the Scott Center.
Thanks for your food donations, and help serving the families of the Universitys Village on the 10th, and for providing and distributing Carnations to all the mothers at the morning Masses on the 12th.

From your Membership Director....
Congratulations are in order for a new Brother Knight who joined our council on April 11th. Thomas Taylor is a student at Ole Miss. Please extend your personal welcome to him at your first opportunity.
The Annual Knights of Columbus State Convention was held on April 26th, 27th and 28th in Hattiesburg. Mark Shows and I attended as delegates along with Peter Sukanek, our State Warden and Peter was re-elected as the State Warden for another year. It was another great convention for Mississippi.
Our council won several awards. On Friday night our council was one of seven in Mississippi to receive the "Honor Council" award. At Saturday nights presentations our council received the States Council award for outstanding support of the "Yellow Fever Martyrs Church and Museum." This award was presented to our council for fundraising efforts to help restore that church in Holly Springs. We also received a second council award for the "Best Council Project" in the state. That award was for the outstanding job our council did with our Stone Center Program we did last year. And last, but not least, our Fourth Degree Assembly in Oxford was presented an award for exceeding our assembly membership goal by 233%. A great weekend for 10901 at the State Convention.
Membership, membership, membership a never-ending need for every council. As I noted last month, our membership goal for this Fraternal Year is eight new members. As of this month we are at a +3. And this Fraternal Year ends on June 30th.
A First Degree Exemplification is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th, at our next monthly meeting, at 7:00 p.m., in the Parish Center so as I always say, "Ask a man to become a Knight of Columbus" before June 30th.
