Knights of Columbus

Council No. 10901

October 2001

From the desk of the Grand Knight...........

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree scheduled at Oxford was unfortunately cancelled. I know our 1st degree team, some local candidates, event coordinators, and food preparation group were all ready. Cancellation came at a late date, but thank you for your readiness. I believe it will be re-scheduled at Oxford at some point. Please be as supportive on that future date.

The work force showed up in good number for the booth setup and takedown. Thanks to all of you for that and for all your help with the Oktoberfest.

Our next night to cook for Total Youth Ministry is October 24th. To help with this or the food at the Halloween carnival on the 31st, contact Geoffrey Yoste.

The cancellation of the football game on Sept 15th changes our Ole Miss game day parking responsibility. That game was rescheduled for December. So the Knights will handle the parking Nov 3rd, Nov 17th, and Dec 1st.

This month the Knights will sponsor the Parish Hayride. On the 27th, bring your flashlight and blanket to Camp Hopewell. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. You can also enjoy the bonfire, roast marshmallows, cook hotdogs, and sip hot chocolate.

The Supreme Council office has approved the establishment of a $1 million "Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund" to be given to the families of all police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other emergency rescue workers killed as a result of the terrorist attacks. Half will be funded by Supreme and half by the councils, assemblies, and individuals. Individuals can make donations payable to Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund, and send to:

Our council is joining a vocation activity started by Father Clive A. Littin in the Serra Club of Auckland in New Zealand. Each 31 club has 31 members. Each member chooses one date of the month and goes to Mass on that day and offers it for priestly and religious vocations. If you miss your Mass, the next convenient one is fine. If Mass is not available, substitute another prayer like the rosary.

The harvest indeed is great but the laborers few.

Pray, therefore, to the Lord of the harvest

To send forth laborers. — Matthew 9:37

To join our club, and receive your vocations prayer card with your date on it, contact Joe Tull.

Be a Knight today,

Paul

43% of all women who have a first abortion will have two or more that follow.

Please pray that the abortion-minded women of our area will find this ministry to get complete information, and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Insurance Fact

The K of C Insurance program is a non-profit organization and doesn’t pay dividends to shareholders, but does provide proceeds to allow the Knights of Columbus to…

Provide the entire budget of the National Family Planning offices of the U.S. and Canadian Bishops, and assist the NFP office of the Mexican Bishops.

Won’t you consider being a part of this program?

From your Membership Director.........

Congratulations are in order for two new brothers who became members of the Knights of Columbus on September 13th. They are Jim McCauley and Amzie Williams. Jim is a retired corporate executive from Holiday Inn and Amzie works at the Library Restaurant in Oxford. Jim was proposed by George Davis and Amzie by Sam DeJohn. Thanks to George and Sam and welcome to Jim and Amzie. Please welcome these two new brothers at your first opportunity.

Recently I sent each of my brother Knights a letter about the "Yellow Fever Martyr’s Church and Museum" in Holly Springs. I also included five (5) tickets, valued at one dollar ($1.00) each. I asked each of my brother Knights to "sell, buy or give away" these five tickets and to send me $5.00 and the ticket stubs to my attention at P.O. Box 350 in Oxford. The letter was sent to ninety-eight brothers and as of today’s date (October 1st), I have received money and stubs from only twenty-three brother Knights. I am hoping that some of these brothers forgot to send their money, so I thought that I would remind each of you to please write a check and send it to me — TODAY!! Remember what I said in my letter — "Your help is needed, is appreciated and our Lord and Blessed Mother will remember you."

In last month’s newsletter I reminded you how important it was to give every Catholic man the opportunity to "become a Knight of Columbus." Remember, only you can give that man that option.

A First Degree is planned for our October monthly meeting on the 11th. The Second and Third Degrees, scheduled for Saturday, September 29th in Oxford was cancelled by Tom Chady, our State Deputy because of an insufficient number of candidates. Our council had five candidates, but the participation from other councils near Oxford was not supportive enough to conduct the degrees. The degrees will be rescheduled in the future, in Oxford.

As I always end my newsletter comments — "Ask another man to become a Knight of Columbus." Vivat Jesus, Bob Hudson
