PINEWOOD DERBY 2006 Race Day: Sunday, January 28, 2007 Location: Community Building on Square Registration and Weigh-in…..Saturday 7pm-8pm Sunday 1:00pm-1:30pm Race Order: Tigers………1:30pm-2:00pm (Note: Race times are approximate. Please be present at least Wolves……..2:00pm-2:30pm 30 minutes prior to your scheduled race time) Bears……….2:30pm-3:00pm Webelos I ….3:30pm-4:00pm Webelos II….4:00pm-4:30pm Outlaws…….4:30pm-5:00pm Finals……….5:00pm-5:30pm Awards……..5:30pm-6:00pm THE RULES: 1. The BSA Official Grand Prix Kit #17006 shall be used, only this year's can be used. Cars made for a previous derby are not allowed. Only official BSA wheels and axles may be used. 2. Overall Width shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches; Length shall not exceed 7.0 inches. Clearance between bottom of car and track should be 3/8 inch so the car will clear the center guide strip. Overall height shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches 3. Weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. Weights may be added to the car provided they are securely built into the car body. Scales used on the day of the race are the final authority. 4. Wheel bearings, washer, and bushings are prohibited; axles may be polished, machined, etc. 5. Details such as steering wheel, driver and decals are permissible. 6. Car must be free wheeling with no springs, motors or starting devices. 7. Wheels cannot be shaped in any way. Wheels may be sanded to remove burrs. 8. Only Graphite or Official BSA lubricant will be permitted. 9. Each car will be inspected by the judges before it may race. Once the car is inspected it is impounded until race time and no changes can be made to it. Repairs can be made between races, however the car cannot be removed from the designated pit area. 10. If a car jumps the track, loses a wheel, etc. the scout will be given a chance to repair the car and the race will be rerun. If the car continues to have mechanical problems it will loose the heat. 11. Mark scouts name and (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I, Webelos II) on bottom of car. 12. Each car will run in 3 heats. This should allow each car to run a heat on each of the 3 lanes. 13. The Race Committee will be the final judge on interpretation of these rules.
AWARDS Awards will be given for Most Unique Design and Boys Choice in each age group. First and Second place winners of each age group will race for the overall Pack Grand Champion in Finals. A Trophy will be given for First, Second, Third and Fourth place winners of Finals. Participation patches will be given to all Scouts that participate.
SPECIAL "OUTLAW" RACE A separate set of races will be conducted for cars which don't meet the standard rules. This race is for parents, siblings, scouts or any one else who wants to enter. The rules are simple: 1. The car must fit on the track 2. The car must be safe. That's it, almost any thing is allowable, old pinewood derby cars, extra weight, different wheels, springs, motors, starting devices, etc. No fireworks allowed. We use a wooden track so don’t strap bottle rockets to your car. |
