Newcastle Sub-Section of the Naval Association of Australia [ formally known as the "Ex Navalmen's Association ] was granted it's charter on 7th November 1925, thus making it the" First in the State"

Newcastle originally began with only a handful of members, regularly meeting at several venues over the years, changing dates and times to suit it's members, even at one stage meeting in a member's " back shed ". Most of it's history being lost in the sands of time and the memory of yesterday. In 1947 the now " Ex Navalmen's Association of Australia " approved the formation of Sub-Sections in all areas of New South Wales, so Newcastle, from it's humble beginnings and it's many changes, through the efforts and dedication of many fine " ex naval men and women " Newcastle Sub-Section, to-day boasts of over 110 male and female members. Since it's beginnings it has had several members who have been granted the Diploma of Merit, and Life Membership has been granted to four.

It covers the areas of Newcastle, The Upper Hunter, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens

In 1960 the Association's name was changed to the "Naval Association of Australia " still with it's adopted motto " Each for All and All for Each "

The Naval Association has grown to the largest organization specifically representing serving and former members of the Navy, Naval Reserve, and other Commonwealth Navies, with around 70 Sub-Sections throughout Australia. Almost 30 of these being located in New South Wales

We meet on the first Sunday of each month at the Gallipoli Club Beaumont Street Hamilton at 10:00 am except for the months of May and September when we meet at Pelican RSL Sub-Branch, again at 10:00am. At Pelican, after our meeting we enjoy, for a small cost a BBQ lunch and a few ales, with wives or partners. Other social activities are arranged each month ANZAC Day , Coral Sea Day and Merchant Mariners Day are events we participate in each year. A BBQ lunch at TS Tobruk on the foreshores of the lovely Newcastle harbour caps the activities of the Coral Sea Day march. A President's Dinner each year with the theme of " Fun an Fraternity " is really the highlight of our social calendar.

Newcastle Sub-Section is proud to be part of the Naval Association of Australia and honoured to be the "First in the State
