'The Story of the Land of Oz'

Captain Cook landed on our shores; his sailors had a swim He never even thought about the third millennium A long way back when Phillip ruled, although quite mesmerised He kept the country going forward to get it colonised
It wasn't long before some men thought there was something more And used their natural instincts to go yonder and explore The country was producing goods for our growing Nation The next step was to join the states, then came Federation
They advocated for some things to fix economy And then stuffed up the employment with this redundancy Now we all are forced to use this lingo, climbing trees with no limbs With GST and BAS, they call 'em acronyms
And when we have a good long look at our fledging Nation Our leaders quickly point the blame to globalisation Now, bugger me, we're swallowed up by this latest vulture These bloody Naked Poets with their crazy offbeat culture! |
Winner with 'GST'

The GST is the subject of this here little rhyme It starts the first day of July - just over nine weeks time There's a great deal of confusion in the community It is hard to find the answers to problems that there'll be This new scheme was concocted by the so called bureaucrats To make the Nation pay on speck, updating finance stats
Now, some will find it very hard - look at Ray Essery He might be the Mullumbimby Bloke but can only count to three It was to be a simple task, to add on ten percent, But they got rid of one cent coins, I wonder where they went A beer at a dollar eighty, goes up by eighteen neat And to pay with our currency, it sort of has me beat
Do we take it back to zero or up to the next five And keep account of credit due the whole time we're alive Chewing gum at sixty cents, again this here odd cent A pencil to write all this down - deduct this cost as spent I've written over half a page, just trying to get set But it's not the least bit clearer - it's not even started yet! |

Winner with 'Downsizing' |
Tenterfield was self supporting once, with factories of every kind Disputes settled out the back - if you had an axe to grind A lethal word was dormant - then politicians dug it up They called it 'downsizing' - a most unruly pup |

If you hear me, 'Peter Jeffery, as our mayor, help us please!' To stop these stupid bureaucrats who have brought us to our knees I can only speak of recent years - that's enough to see The very disappearance of our own e-lec-tric-ity They stopped the local butchers from killing their own choice meats Then blow me if the dairymen were barred from pulling teats I've an idea what you're thinking - in this day and age you're right When the chips are down and sinking - you hold your ground and fight When opponent is unemployment - inflation tests your wits Southpaw or wild slogger, you can't get decent hits But such is life's misfortune - it can change just in a flash If we could win the Lotto, we'd all have lots of cash! |
