Delegate Jacquelyn Adams informed us on the architecture, design, and history of the Cathedral of St. Paul in London from its origins beginning in the very early 600’s until modern times. It was rebuilt once in 962 after being ransacked by the Vikings and a replacement cathedral in the Norman style finally completed in 1310. Is was destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666. The current edifice was completed in 1710. Many historical happenings have occurred there including a funeral service for the Duke of Wellington; Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee service; memorial services for Queen Victoria; King George V’s Silver Jubilee service; funeral service of Sir Winston Churchill; the marriage of Charles, Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer. 1997 saw the 300th anniversary of St. Paul’s; 2000 the 100th birthday of HM The Queen Mother; 2001 – Service of Remembrance held for the victims of the 9/11 terrorists attacks. * Delegate J.
