Packing List from Travel Tips Newsletter*

The key to good packing techniques is to bring only what you need!

Luggage is limited to one suitcase and one carry-on.  PEOPLE TO PEOPLE will send luggage tags to you before departure date-label everything!

Suitcase: Wheels are a necessity. Maximum weight is 40 lbs., but that is really too heavy to carry for three weeks!  And remember - the length plus the height plus the width must not exceed 54 inches.  In addition to clothes, suitcases should hold:
          tie or nylons                                         homestay gifts
nice, comfortable walking shoes             thank you cards
umbrella or rain gear                             extra film (expensive overseas)
laundry detergent (liquid only)                extra batteries (expensive overseas)
          clothesline & clothespins                       alarm clock
bar soap/towel                                      several pens (1/2 doz. good!)
          sweater/light jacket

Carry-on bag: There are many, good quality, pieces of luggage designed for this purpose (with wheels also).  Maximum weight is 11 lbs., and it must fit under your seat on the plane!  The sum of dimensions for this carry on luggage must not exceed 39 inches.  In case your luggage is lost, your
carry-on should hold:
          shirt                                               toothbrush & toothpaste
slacks                                             medications & other toiletry items
underwear                                       journal & pen / Explore Guide
          socks                                             camera & film
deodorant                                       copy of passport with passport number
          soap/towel                                      valuables such as jewelry
contact solution & case                    bottle of water
back pack (if you intend to carry one)
in other words - anything that you might need (not want) for one or two days living.

Always good to carry Zip-lock bags and rubber bands to keep bottles of liquids and other things that tend to get loose.

Make certain that you label ALL of your valued items in each piece of luggage and, in your carry on luggage, have an inventory (on a note card) of all of your packed items.

Leave sufficient room to bring those souvenirs that you will want to purchase!
