Fan mod for Dishplayer 501 and I guess for the 508 as well as the 5100 and 5800 models.
This mod will spin the cooling fan only when the green power light is on.
First warm up the soldering iron and open up the cover of your Dishplayer.
Located the brown fan connector.
Just in front of it is Q10, R176, R167 and Q7. Remove R167 and Q7 as they are no longer needed. I just moved them over so they're no longer in the circuit. This way I won't loose them in case I want to reverse the mod. Now solder a wire to the junction of R167 and Q7.
Now located L14 and R307. Solder the other end of the wire to the junction of R307 and L14 as shown.
That's it. Now the cooling fan will run when the green power light is on and turn off when it's off.
