Review - Lee Kernaghan "Hat Town"

single on ABC Music through EMI Records

The opening chords of the new single Hat Town, from Lee Kernaghan, promises more of the same of what we already have on “Outback Club”, “Three Chain Road” and “1959”. But then, why mess around with a formula?! Yes, the Boy from the Bush is back in town and he with Garth Porter and Colin Buchanan have created another gem that will surely earn the team more Platinum and Guitars.

Hat Town is the first single featuring Colin & John Watson, James Gillard, Rod McCormack, Mark Punch, Lawrie Minson and Mick Albeck and is the title track from Lee’s forthcoming new album. It’s a song about almost any town in outback Australia: “it might by Thargominda, it might be Barclay Downs”; a rag tag bunch of buildings straddling a strip of red dust where the folk always pass the hat around to pull each other through when times are tough.

This is essential Australian Country music the way Lee Kernaghan has always done it, heralding a new collection of hits HHHH
