Review - Michael Fix "Promise"

EP on Stallion Records/Streetwise through Warners

I have always liked Michael Fix’s work, from my introduction through the folk at Gore Hill and his Heart Has Reasons, Breakup Breakdown and Falling releases thereon. So I was more than pleased to hear of his new release through Stallion Records/Streetwise, and even happier to receive my copy of “Promise”, Michael’s newest six-track EP.

“Promise” combines the styles of Tommy and Phil Emmanuel (the former being Michael’s coach for many years), and Chet Atkins as well as retaining some of his own undeniable roots from the Hatrick days by adding violin to Mr Wonglepong and Ashokan Farewell. The record creates many moods through its 19-odd minutes, ably displaying the many facets of Michael’s work and flowing very successfully from one mood to the next. Is it any wonder that accolades, nominations, awards, session work and tours are a constant part of his working life?!

Michael Fix is a gifted musician, both in the creation and performance of his own work and the interpretation of others’. “Promise” EP on Stallion Records/Streetwise through Warners is more that an example of all of that  ««««
