Early leader, Dale Earnhardt (3), chases down the lapped car of Dave Marcis (71), who was one of five drivers carrying the colors of the Armed Forces. Earnhardt dominated the race, much like the previous year, but came up short again as he and Davey Allison tangled with three laps to go. He would finish fifth. Marcis only made forty laps before the engine let go in his Coast Guard Chevrolet. He would finish 35th. |

Harry Gant was one of about seven cars involved in a late race crash of the front straightaway that eliminated other contenders such as Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip, and 1990 Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope. |

Ernie Irvan (4) leads Davey Allison (28) under the lapped cars of Ted Musgrave (55) and Bill Elliott (9) late in the race. Irvan got a jump on a restart with seven laps to go and held off Sterling Marlin to the caution flag to end the race, which was brought out when Dale Earnhardt and Davey Allison tangle on the back stretch. Earnhardt limped home in 5th, Allison finished 15 |
