Rick Mast started off the season strong, scoring his best career finish of 4th in the Daytona 500. The rest of the year was rather disappointing.  Rick scored just two more top 10 finishes the rest of the year, sending him to a 21st place finish in the points.

J.D. McDuffie was the deffinition of an Independant driver. He fielded his own cars with most of the funding coming out of his own pocket.  McDuffie ran just 5 races in 1991.  Sadly, J.D. was killed in a accident at Watkins Glen when he tangled with Jimmy Means.
Another Independant driver, Jimmy Means drove his uniquely painted Pontiac in 20 races in 1991. Jimmy would much rather forget 1991.  His best finish was 20th at Talladega and he was involved in the accident that claimed the life of J.D. McDuffie.

Kyle Petty  6-2-60

For the second year in a row, Petty dominated the Goodwrench 500.  Petty's season was essentially ended a few weeks later when a broken leg side-lined him for 11 races.  Kyle would finish 31st in the standings despite running only 18 of 29 races.
Richard Petty  7-2-37

Richard Petty had a tough 1991 season.  For the second year in a row, Petty managed just one top 10 finish.  His futility lead to the announcement late in the year that the 1992 Winston Cup season would be his last as a driver.
