CAMP OKIHI (Bakersfield)

Kern County Parks and Recreation Dept. (661-868-7000) 8:00 am-5:00 pm, M-F

http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/okihi.htm

DIRECTIONS:  Drive east on China Grade Loop through the oilfields until it changes into Round Mountain Road.  Continue east on Round Mountain Road across the river from and past Hart Park and the soccer fields.  Small sign is on right hand side marking driveway down into camping area.  (If you get to the “rough road” sign you went too far.)

CAMP THREE FALLS (Frazier Park)

DIRECTIONS:  Take the Frazier Park exit off of I-5.  Go through Frazier Park to Lake of the Woods.  Make a left on Lockwood Valley Road (you will see a mini-mart).  Go approximately 9 miles to Boy Scout Camp Road and turn right.  Go to the end of the road.  The gate to the camp may be closed but it won’t be locked.

FRAISER MILL – BALCH PARK

DIRECTIONS:  The entrance to Balch Park is through Porterville. From Porterville, drive 19 miles east on Highway 190. You will pass by Lake Success, just outside of Porterville and further up the road, the town of Springville.

One mile east of Springville you'll find Balch Park Road and turn left here. You can't miss it, just look for the big white barn and white wooden fence surrounding the farm on the left hand corner. You'll now drive 3 miles to Bear Creek Road.

You've got to make a decision. You can turn right onto Bear Creek Road and go right up to Balch, its only 15 miles away. However, this road is very narrow, steep in places, and winding, with a lot of lumber trucks using it at times. If you're pulling a large trailer or driving a large motorhome, don't turn here, just go straight ahead. If you go straight, you'll drive over a road that is less steep, less winding, and a bit wider, though it is 40 miles up to Balch from here.

LAKE LOPEZ (Arroyo Grande)

http://www.slocountyparks.com/activities/lopez.htm

DIRECTIONS: Lopez Lake is just ten miles east of Arroyo Grande off Hwy 101. Traveling either north or south on Hwy. 101, take the Grand Ave. exit in Arroyo Grande.  Turn east and follow the signs to Lopez Lake.  The Mustang Waterslides are located inside the Lopez Lake County Campground 10 miles east of Arroyo Grande. We’re at the Mustang Campsite.

QUAIL VALLEY
