Amongst the swaying palms we are a small football club based at Yorkeys Knob on Cairns northern beaches. The Yorkeys Junior club have been around for over twenty years contributing more than our share of regional, state and national soccer players in senior mens, womens, youth and junior divisions. Season 2008 Yorkeys Knob junior soccer fielded teams from u/7 to u/14 playing in the C.D.S.A. fixtures at Endeavour Park football venue in Cairns(most junior soccer games are at this central venue). Yorkeys Knob junior players are taught about the game, skills required for playing football, personal development and, above all to enjoy the game and have some fun. While we might be there to win the game, football is about more than just winning or being paid to do so.

After winning the 2nd division Premiership in 2002 (there is no 1st division competition we jump from 2nd's to premier and there is no promotion system), 2003 found that a lack of volunteers and too few sponsors forced the Yorkeys Knob senior soccer club to not field teams in season 2003; there are more than enough players in Cairns. We can only hope the future will bring a change of fortune. For Yorkeys seniors football in Cairns and the Far North seems to be standing still, so another year and maybe season 2010 or 2011 will see Yorkeys competing in the premier league again!!!
Well 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 football seasons have been played and Yorkeys Hornets was junior teams only, with everybody enjoying many great games.

Commenced in 2008, a nationally consistent format of small-sided games was introduced for children under the age of twelve years. Football Queensland committed to the introduction of the format for the 6, 7 and 8 years age groups in the first year and established an implementation schedule which will see the 9 years age group play the format in 2009. The philosophy of SSF focuses on enjoyment and freedom of expression with limited emphasis on coaching per se, particular in the formative years of a player’s development. They benefit children by making their early contact with the game more enjoyable while simultaneously providing an environment that will facilitate greater skill development. Now it is the 2009 season and it is junior football teams only, good luck to all who take to the field and those on the sidelines.

These Facilities are still in place but unused, the Juniors train at the school in Clinton St Yorkeys. The cost of operating the above is beyond the means of the Junior Club alone to afford and maintain the playing fields and infrastructure.
