Introduction Pagan's page is my contribution to the discovery of this rare & beautiful breed called the 'Sarplaninac' by the greater 'general public'. The Sarplaninac is a large long haired livestock guardian dog from the former Yugoslavian republic. It is usually grey but all colours are accepted in the standard except for black. The Name Sarplaninac is pronounced "Shar-pla-née-natz." The name is taken from the mountain ranges of its homeland now macedonia. The word Sarplaninac is really Sar planina (i.e. The Sar mountains) This mountain range separates Kosovo & Macedonia & also the top eastern corner of Albania. Other names for the sarplaninac include: Illyrian shepherd dog (or sheepdog) Yugoslavian shepherd Yugoslavian shepherd dog -Sarplaninac Sharplaninec (Macedonian name) Sharplanina or Sharplaninatz (American name) Charplanina or berger yougoslave (French name) etc.......................... There are also shortened versions of these names ( nicknames) such as Sar or sharpla in the USA & Charpla in France. If you have enough natural authority, motivation combined with lots of love patience & time ( not to mention space…) & you don’t mind being asked …. What breed is that ? A LOT. Then maybe a Sarplaninac is for you. BUT….. This is not a breed that changes owners easily so please take time to discover more about the Sarplaninac from other sites on my links page !!!! |
