You are probably aware that the Ramakrishna Mission Students' Home, Mylapore, Chennai is the oldest and well renowned social service organisation in India. Started in 1905 in response to Swami Vivekananda's call to evolve a caring society, this institution provides free board, lodging and education for520 orphan and destitute boys. Boys who enter this Home in their 10th or 11th year stay on till they secure either a diploma in Engineering or a degree in a college and are thus able to stand on their own feet.
There are three courses (3 years courses) offered by the Polytechnic College which is purely residential. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (D.M.E.), Diploma in Automobile Engineering (D.A.E.) and Diploma in Computer Engineering (D.C.E.).
There is one area in which you can help. Of the 520 students in the Home, about 300 are in the Polytechnic College. Based on actual expenses the cost of providing Tuition and Examination fees, books, note books, stationery and uniforms for each student in the Polytechnic college comes to Rs.7500/-per student per year. However we would request you to contribute
For each student Rs.1,000/- for books, note books & stationery etc.
