Canadian Idol 2004
Hosted by the ever charming Ben Mulroney and his hilarious sidekick Jon Dore, Canadian Idol traveled accross the country for the second time this summer, to find Canada's next Idol. We soon met our charming Top 10, the best to grace our televisions yet: Brandy Callahan, Jason Greeley, Manoah Hartmann, Jacob Hoggard, Elena Juatco, Kalan Porter, Joshua Seller, Kaleb Simmonds, Theresa Sokyrka and Shane Wiebe. Week after week, the idols performed on stage, the judges (Jake Gold, Farley Flex, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner) criticized, and we had to say goodbye to one competitor. The Idols continued to warm our hearts all summer long, until the second Canadian Idol was crowned on September 16.
I find it hard to believe that we will be able to find such a good Top 10 in the following editions of CI. From early on, I had picked out my favourites: Jacob Hoggard, Kalan Porter and Theresa Sokyrka. I voted for them each week, not knowing if my time spent dialing and redialing on the phone had any impact on the results... so you can imagine how excited I was when all three of them advanced to become 2004's Top 3. Theresa's Song for a Winter's Night and Summertime, Jacob's Put Your Head On My Shoulder and Only The Good Die Young, Kalan's Nature Boy and House f the Rising Sun are among my favourite performances of the season.
