The half-forgotten, in my century-old college; the half-imagined, as in pictures of Paris opera houses; even the one visualized solely in the mind, as in Li Bei's poem. Long and winding, they are fantasized to be mysterious pathways which lead to the sky. Such is the spiral stairway in myths, fairy tales and literature.
