Karl Wohlwend has given concerts and masterclasses in Virginia, the Carolinas, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. The Washington D.C. Guitar Society hailed him as a "guitarist with command of technique, beautiful tone and sensitive musicianship," and the Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts (Kitty Hawk, NC) praised his "extraordinary talent." He was awarded high recognition in the Great Lakes International Guitar Competition in 1993, and his performances have been broadcast on public radio. He has performed in masterclasses with Fred Hand, David Russell, and David Tanenbaum. Holding degrees from the University of South Carolina and the Cleveland Institute of Music, his principal teachers include John Holmquist, Julian Gray, and Christopher Berg. Wohlwend has been a featured performer and composer at the NOW New Music Festival each year since 1994. In March 1995, he presented "Karl Wohlwend and Friends," Central Ohio's first concert of chamber music with guitar. He is on the faculties of Capital Unversity, Otterbein College, and Ohio Wesleyan University, and has often been invited to teach at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Classical Guitar Workshop. He also performs with the Irish-American band Knot Fibb'n.
