A Lie

There's just no way, you could have cared,
The way I cared for you,
There's just no way, you'll understand,
The way that I love you.

You wouldn't say you loved me,
And you said you wouldn't lie,
But what'd you call, that false hope,
That gave our love a try?

You didn't have to lead me on,
And let me hope in vain
You should have spoken, some time back,
And saved us both some pain.

If I could see, through your words,
Then think what God must know,
To Him, we'll have to answer,
When after death, we go.

But alas! I can't be bitter,
And you, I cannot hate,
But time will tell the story,
'Til then, we'll have to wait.

One day, I'll get my answer,
At some future time and place,
But until that day, comes to pass,
The question, won't erase.
