Morning Prayer

“The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” - Psalm 51:17

“I will get up and go to my Father, and I will say to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you;
I am no longer worthy to be called your son...’” - Luke 15:18-19

“Do not enter into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.” - Psalm 143:2

Most merciful God, I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what I have done, and by what I have left undone.
I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself.
I am truly sorry and I humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me;
that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on me,
forgive me all my sins through my Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen me in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep me in eternal life. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Lord, open my lips.
And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

PSALTER

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
World without end, Amen, Amen.
Alleluia.

OLD TESTAMENT READING

“Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning my song shall rise to thee!
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!” - Reginald Heber, 1826

NEW TESTAMENT READING

GOSPEL READING

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,was crucified, died, and was buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father,
you have brought me in safety to this new day:
Preserve me with your mighty power, that I may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity;
and in all I do, direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose;
through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.

I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same, the Three in One, the One in Three.
I bind this day to me forever by power of faith Christ's Incarnation,
his baptism in the Jordan river, his death on the cross for my salvation;
his bursting from the spiced tomb, his riding up the heavenly way,
his coming at the day of doom I bind unto myself today.
I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and lead,
his eye to watch, his might to stay, his ear to hearken to my needs,
the wisdom of my God to teach, his hand to guide, his shield to ward,
the Word of God to give me speech, his heavenly host to be my guard.
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me;
Christ to comfort and restore me;
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the name, the strong name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three,
of whom all nature hath creation, eternal Father, Spirit, Word;
praise to the God of my salvation, salvation is of Christ the Lord!
