Dave is the grandson of James and Anne Hickey Martin from Outer Cove. The following message is from Dave:
Rose/Quigley/Keating: My great-grandfather, William Rose, married Mary Quigley (christened 16 Jan 1862 in Torbay). Mary was the daughter of Pat Quigley and Ellen Keating. Any info on any of them would be welcome.
Hickey/ Roach: My grandfather was James Hickey of Patrick Hickey of Outer Cove & Mariah Bolger of Torbay. Patrick's parents were David Hickey and Margaret Roach (m. 26 Nov. 1832). Any info on the origins of David and Margaret is welcome.
Martin/ Tapper: My grandmother was Anne Martin, (b. 1880s, d. 9 Apr. 1930) and she married James Hickey of Outer Cove. Her parents were Peter Martin and Mary Tapper, both of Torbay. Peter and Mary married 23 Nov. 1878. Witnesses were John Tapper and Elizabeth Tapper. I welcome any infrmation on Peter Martin and Mary Tapper.
Bolger: Mariah (Maria or Mary) Bolger (b 1850s, d. 18 Jan 1946) is another great-grandmother of mine. She married Patrick Hickey of Outer Cove. We believe her father was Michael Bolger, blacksmith, of Torbay and her mother Ellen Doyle, but I can't confirm it. Any info confirming or eliminating this possibility is welcome.

Edwin is another of our serious Goss/Gosse researchers. Edwin, Carl Galena, and Patsy Bluemer are descendants of Jonathan Bradbury and Hannah Cox. circa 1758. I know from my own research into the Bradbury line that among the descendands of Jonathan & Hannah are the surnames of Tapper, Whitten, Power, Crowley, Ryan, Cantwell, Goss, Gosse, Cook... to name a few!

Carl is interested in all of the North Side of Torbay but his main interests are Bradbury, Ryan, Gosse and Dunphy. Carl's grandparents were Robert Bradbury and Alice Hickey. Carl makes lots of trips to NF. He spends his time in Torbay doing research and listening to his Uncle Jac Bradbury tell stories of his sealing days.

Jim is researching the Eustace line and has gotten back to the 1770's. Jim's grandmother was Elizabeth Maria Eustace. Elizabeth's parents were George Eustace from Torbay and Caroline Weir from Petty Harbour. The parents of Geroge were James and Ellen. Jim believes James Eustace was the son of Thomas, born Nov. 1779. Thomas was the son of James Eustace and Grace Cox. James and Grace were married Nov. 28, 1777.

Pat is researching the Eustace line. Pat is the great granddaughter of Thomas EUSTACE b. 8 June 1845 d 2 Jan 1934 HESTER ANN (ESTER) WILLIAMS b 1844 d. 15 Dec 1905. Hester may have been from Petty Harbour. Pat believes the parents of Thomas were James and Ellen Eustace from Torbay.

Shirley is someone I am attempting to rope into being interested in genealogy. She is the daughter of Wm. and Mary Manning Molloy. Mary was the daughter of John Francis Manning & Catherine Cullen. Shirley married Frances Thorne, the son of John Frances Thorne and Catherine Ryan. Catherine was the daughter of Jack Ryan. Shirley and Frances were born in Torbay and have spent most of their lives there. Shirley's knowledge of Torbay and it's people (if she doesn't know them, she knows someone who does), combined with her educational level, make her an asset to Torbay's history.

Jim is beginning to dig into his roots and some possible connections are Gosse from Torbay, Griffin from Outer Cove and Kelly from Middle Cove. The spelling of Jim's grandfather's name is listed in Seary's "Family Names of the Island of Newfoundland" as Pyne. His mother's people are from St. Mary's Bay area.

Kimo is looking for the parents of Margaret Ryan of Torbay and James Troy. James was the brother of our first Holy Trinity Parish priest... Father Edward Troy. Margaret and James had two children, Cornelius Troy, born in 1816, and Mary Troy, born in 1812. Mary Troy married Patrick Hynes at the Basilica in St. John's in 1839. They were married by Mary's uncle, Father Edward Troy. Mary and Pat Hynes are the great-great-grandparents of Kimo. He has traced all descendants from Pat and Mary to present day. I am in the process of writing up some data regarding Father Edward R. Troy and will post it to the Links Page when it is finished. Finding which Mary Ryan of Torbay may be a little difficult but I think I have copies of every Ryan who was ever registered at Holy Trinity.

Peggy is researching Fitzpatrick and Dodd. Peggy's Great-grandfather, Thomas DODD (1865-1969) - born & died in Newfoundland (occupation was fishing) married: Mary Josephine FITZPATRICK (1869 - <1969) Children: James, Josephine, Peter, John, Bride, William Francis. - (grandfather's birth certificate shows he was born in Torbay, St. John's East, Newfoundland on 14 Jul 1899 and baptized by Rev M. J. Clarke, P.P. on 16 Jul 1899.)
Thomas had a brother named William who married Anastasia FITZPATRICK (she is Mary Josephine's sister) and had the following children: Frances, Thomas, Richard, William, and Mary all born in Torbay. All show up on 1921 Census except Peggy's grandfather who had emigrated to the US (Michigan area). Peggy write, "I also believe that Thomas & William's father was either born in Torbay or in the Torbay area of Devon, England. I found information showing that fishing ships come to Torbay, NF. on an annual basis from Brixham, Devon, England. I also believe that Mary Josephine and Anastasia had at least one other sister and their families came from Ireland."

Marion is interested in the Cantwell name. She is trying to find out if there is any connection between the Cantwells of Torbay and James Cantwell, lighthouse keeper at Cape Spear (1801-1880). She can't find birth record of James and does not know names of his siblings.

Arlene is looking for any information on a Dr. David Duggan, born abt. l800 and died some-time before l853. Arlene's GGG-Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Morley, was devised land on Torbay Rd. She was married to Richard Walsh and they christened 9 children at the Basilica St. John's, NF. - Mary Anne Walsh, John Richard Walsh, Andrew Walsh, Elizabeth Walsh, Andrew Walsh, Edward Joseph Walsh, Mary Jane Walsh, Ambrose Walsh, and John Jerimiah Walsh. They lived on Torbay Rd. from l827 - until the late l840's. Mary Elizabeth Morley had a sister, Ann who married John Pynne. The mother of Mary and Ann was Elizabeth. Elizabeth died on 6/29/1826. This Dr. David Duggan owned a great deal of land. Mary Morley sold her land to her brother, David Morley, and he sold a great deal of land for l00's of pounds.
If anyone has seen these names, especially Dr. David Duggan, Arlene would appreciate hearing from you.

Jane does not know for sure if there is a Torbay connection, but she is trying to find information on Samuel Goss who married Anastasia Foran. They had a daughter, Isabella, born 1860 who married Roger Callahan. One of their children, Roger, was one of the first five hundred and was killed at Beaumont Hamel, July 1, 1916.
