Project Profile: Selecting a theme and topic is simple. Creating a unit that covers all areas of the of the curriculum and incorporates unique and compelling data and information is much more complicated. When creating thisproject, many different ideas came to mind. Here is a summary of some of those ideas and how I would attempt to integrate them in to my classroom. Objectives: 1. The kindergarten students in my class will have the opportunity to be introduced to the basic principles and ideals of many different faiths. 2. The students will be introduced to several different Nobel Pece Prize Winners. The students will then make the connection with the religious backrounds of those people as well as make a connectin to the good deeds of the individuals. 3. The third objective is the most complex of the three objectives because it is an online collaborative projet that will connect students from differnt faiths to share and express their beliefs and understand while allowing the others to ask them questions about their own religion. 4. The students will use Real Time data have a better understanding of their religion. The students will also use audio clips and video interviews to learn about famous Nobel Peace Prize winners. Additional Information: The page will also contain a link to real time information that is provided by different media networks with current religious issues. National Social Studies Standards: National Standards for History (K-4) Chapter 1: Developing Standards in History for Students in Grades K-4 Chapter 2: Standards in Historical Thinking Chapter 3: Standards in History for Grades K-4 Overview and Contents of Standards in History for Grades K-4 Topic 1: Living and Working Together in Families and Communities, Now and Long Ago Topic 2: The History of Students’ Own State or Region Topic 3: The History of the United States: Democratic Principles and Values and the Peoples from Many Cultures Who Contributed to Its Cultural, Economic, and Political Heritage Topic 4: The History of Peoples of Many Cultures Around the World Classroom Management Plan: The classroom has one computer with fast internet access. In the event that I would be unable to connect I would have to back up my site on a disk and make copies of the information that is intended to be viewed through the links. The school computer lab is available each morning from 8:00- 9:15 a.m. |
Collaborative Project: The students will search through the Alliance Plus Workshop activities that provide a teacher with many different opportunities to engage in projetcs with other classroom from around the city, nation or world. Students can create a short list of questions and answers about their faith and the aspects that they understand. In addition photo can be taken with a digital camera and the students can describe some of the symbols of their church. The students that are joining their online collaborative project will be able to do the same. This interaction and exchange of ideas and information will provide students with a basic overview of another faith. One of the good things about this project is that many classes can participate at the same. Real time data: One type of Real time data that could be incorporated into this project is listening to radio transmission that are made available through the Vatican. Quick Link: Vatican Radio The Pope's Voice Analysis and Parallel:One of the most interesting ideas that I came accross was to encourage the students to read and learn about Nobel Peace Prize Winners and make an analysis of how they used their faith to make a difference in the world : Nobel Peace Prize Links: The List of Nobel Peace Prize Winners from 1901-2000 Real Time Audio and Video Links of Mother Theresa Example: Mother Theresa Nobel Peace Prize Winner 1979 Catholic Dalai Lama Nobel Peace Prize Winner 1989 Buddhism Martin Luther King Nobel Peace Prize Winner 1964 Baptist |
