[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #4900, Date of Import: Aug 8, 1996]
James Thompson moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina as a baby. He was a charter member of Mt. Moriah Mason Lodge. By trade, he was a surveyor. He made several wise land investments and by the 1790's was considered quite rich. James served in the War of 1812, attaining the rank of captain. In 1834, he deeded five acres of land to the Salem Presbyterian Church, which became the Hiddenite Cemetery.
