![]() When my son Christopher was born I had know Idea how much I had to learn. I had know Idea how hard and difficult things could be sometimes, raising a child with Down syndrome. I was also a single parent which made things even more difficult.I focused on using local and state resources to help guide me in the direction I needed to go, to provide the best for my son. What I was surprised to find was that the amount of information and resources for children with Down syndrome is. It is so minimal in this area it shocked me. It angered me. So much that I needed to do something about it. There are a lot of parents in this area who have a child with Down syndrome, yet you never see them. The one little support group I did attend there was at the most 5 families there. There are new babies born all the time who have Down syndrome. These parents don't know where to turn to find answers to their questions. Those of us who have older children, what is in store for us? What about adolescents, and teen age years? These are just a few of the questions and advice that some parents need. Another parent can be such a great support, and this is why I have created PCdownies. I am not claiming to be a professional of any kind. I am not offering medical advice, nor legal advice. I am a parent of a sweet boy with Down syndrome. Trying to make a difference in a community that needs it. |
