Chapter 16 |
(Howie’s View) I heard a knock at the door. Kara looked up at me as I grabbed the aluminum baseball bat I had purchased earlier that day. He opened the door with the bat behind his back only to see his mother & one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. He was so mesmerized by her beauty, that he dropped the bat. His mother’s voice brought him back to reality. “Howard” “What?” “Are you going to let us come in?” “Oh, Yeah come in” “Grandma,” Kara exclaimed jumping from the bed & running over to my mom. “Who is this,” Kara asked. “Kara, I know this is going to be hard for you to believe, but this is your mother,” my mom said. “My mommy,” Kara said in bewilderment. I watched as Kara walked over to the other woman. She touched her face & hair. I watched as tears ran down my daughter’s cheeks & she hugged her mother. I searched my mind for a name. Christie came to my mind. I sat on the bed & felt a little empty inside. Her mother had come back & Kara was so happy. Then I watched as Kara pulled away & walked back over to me. Christie bit her bottom lip. She looked a little empty inside. I looked into Christie’s eyes. My mom made a quick exit & I laid Kara down so that Christie & I could talk. Kara quickly fell asleep. I turned toward Christie & I waited to hear what she had to say. |
