Chapter 33
(Brian’s View)
I followed Howie down the road. One of our songs came on the radio. Nick started singing in a stupid way trying to make me laugh. He succeeded. Soon we were both singing
The Call stupidly into the walkie-talkie. A.J. told us to shut up & we stopped singing. We noticed that there were 3 black vans drove up beside us. They had ILab.Corp on the side. I became curious about the vans & I told Howie about them.

“Do they have anything on them,” he asked.
“Yeah, It has ILab.Corp on the side of them,” I told him.

He gasped & I heard a thump.

“Howie are you OK,” I asked.
“It’s them. I need you guys to be calm or they will suspect something.”

I watched them pass us & then pass the other van. They sped ahead of the other van & Howie pulled over at a gas station. I pulled up behind him & jumped out of the van. I saw Christie step out & go to the driver side of the van Howie stepped out & were talking with one another. I ran up to them.

“Howie what are you doing,” I asked.
“I’ll give them some time to get ahead of us so we don’t have to see them again.”
Soon the vans came back & pulled up across the road from us. I told Howie to pretend he was sick. Told Christie to get into the van & called Kevin out of the van. He shut the door behind him so the women & kids would be hidden. A.J. also jumped out. Three men approached us & Howie held his stomach & began moaning. The three men came around & asked if we needed any help.

“No he just isn’t feeling good,” Kevin said as he bent over to help Howie.
“He didn’t want to through up in his new van so he pulled over & jumped out. We will be OK.” A.J said.

The men left & Howie sat up.

“Smart thinking Brian,” he said in relief.
