Chapter 1
(9 years later, Howie’s View)
I sat watching the sunset at my home in Orlando. My wife was resting downstairs & my children were doing their homework or doing something quietly. I began to think about them & my life, especially the past 12 years. My son Tony, who is adopted, got another discipline notice today. He is very bright & very smart, but he likes to have fun. (Even though he picks the worst times to do so.) He is 17 (my eldest child) & he is a junior at Edgewater High School. My eldest daughter, Kara, is one of the brightest girls in school. She is very smart & she is involved in so many activities. She is 16 & a sophomore at Edgewater. Kara was the first child I had & I love her so much. I have sacrificed a lot for her. I became paralyzed when I tried to save her. I adopted her when her mother abandoned her & five years later I teamed up with her mother (whom I am married to) to save her life. Next comes the twins, Russell & Melody. They are both bright, but they like to argue with each other for stupid reasons. I love them both even if they are a pain in the neck sometimes. They are 10 & attend a local Elementary school. The last of my children is Hannah. She 6 & loves to play a lot. She is curious & is always willing to learn. I love her too. The last member that I thought about was my wife Christie. I loved her & wouldn’t take back anything I have done with her. She has to take care of the kids & me, which is hard on one person. She does it anyway out of love. As I was thinking about her she entered the room & told me it was time for dinner. I smiled & we both left the room. Everyone was already sitting at the table. Tony was sitting with his feet on the table. Kara was talking about her new project. The twins were listening to her & Hannah was sitting quietly. I approached the table & we blessed to food & ate. I was very lucky to have a family as wonderful as this.
