Peder Jansson: Artist's Statement

Before I got involved with visual arts, I was working as a

musician. Through the years, my musical preferences have varied

from experimental noise to contemporary classical music. I chose

to leave the music world in the mid 90s since I thought the music

environment was too controlled and by that it sort prevented my

artistic creativity.

Most of my previous visual works have been on child issues and

the process of growing up, interests that quite recently have taken

other turns, for instance, to nostalgia, scale displacements and

sound art, to name but a few...

My current work is mainly focussed on memory/amnesia, color,

scale and sound distortions. The bottom line of my work is how

audio and/or visual matters affect human emotions. My recent audio

work is mostly worked out as conceptual audio CDs and/or a part

of installations. I have my own one-man-sound-art-project called,

RHALE - a sound project that examines rhythms and sounds beyond

traditional church music.

Besides my sound work, I am also working with photography

and video. I am especially interested in monumental images and to

enhance color saturation when working with transparency films and

Ilfochrome prints. I am also experimenting with various forms of

casting techniques.

Apart from communicating with people, I am very interested in

affecting any viewer’s emotions with my art. I hope my artistic

choices and interests pique both the ears and eyes of listeners

and viewers.
