Telephone Advice |
Occasionally your child may have a problem and you're not sure if it is necessary for you to bring them to the office or not. You may call our office phone number above to leave a message with the receptionist for the phone nurse to call you back. There is a staff member available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9:00 AM to 6:00PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:00 AM to 12 PM on Saturday. Please leave your name, your childs name, phone number where you can be reached(or cell phone number) and the question you have. For medication refills, please leave the pharmacy name and number and medication information. If you require a medication refill for ADD/ADHD, please try to call 24 hours ahead of time so we may have your prescription ready to be picked up and signed for. This will minimize the time you have to spend in the office when you arrive to pick up the prescription. Our nursing staff is trained and available to answer questions regarding your child over the phone and they have a protocol they follow regarding your childs current problem. They can then decide, based on the information you provide, whether your child should be seen in the office that day or in the near future. They can also answer questions regarding medication dosages and other minor illnesses. If a decision requiring the M.D.'s input is needed, they will confirm with one of the doctors or our Nurse Practicioner when they are not with a patient and will call you back. This may take some time, please be patient. Phone calls will be returned in the order they are received and in as timely a manner as possible. If it is extremely busy, there may be a bit of a wait for your call to be returned, but all calls will be returned that day. If you call the office and leave a message for the nurse to call you back, please be available for the return call. On extremely busy days,(during the winter months) we may not be able to call you back more than once. Phone calls regarding school, behavior problems or emotional problems are best handled by making an appointment to see one of our doctors or our nurse practicioner. We understand that to parents any concern about their child can be considered urgent. Feeding schedules, constipation, medication refills and non-life threatening symptoms are handled more efficiently during office hours when the childs chart is available and you can speak to staff who are familar with your child. The phone nurse is available to help you make decisions regarding your child, but, we cannot diagnose and treat over the phone. The telephone nurse system we have devised, allows the nurse to get your childs chart during office hours and to know a little more of what is going on with your child. She may need to look something up or ask a doctor or nurse practicioner and this allows her to do so before she calls you back. |
