ACCIDENT IN TASMANIA, SINGAPOREAN INJURED

A SINGAPOREAN doing her master's in education in Tasmania, Australia, suffered serious head injuries in an accident last Thursday.

Ms Hamimah Abu, 38, was knocked down by a cycle at around 3pm as she was crossing the road near her university's swimming pool, said Tasmanian police yesterday.

She was taken to Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition and was later transferred by helicopter to Hobart, Tasmania's capital in the south.

Launceston, located on the northern tip of the island, is Tasmania's second largest city. Ms Hamimah had been studying at the University of Tasmania's Launceston campus since the beginning of the year.

Police questioned the cyclist, a 16-year-old boy, and are continuing the investigation. Ms Hamimah is still in a critical condition in intensive care at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Her parents and older sister are with her.
