Pemberville Opera House Restoration has Begun

In early September 1998 two furnaces, which will provide heat to the Opera House on the second floor of the Town Hall, were delivered and installed in the attic space above the Opera House. The installation of the furnaces and duct work was done by Kellermeir Plumbing and Heating.

This is just the first step in restoring The Pemberville Opera House to the glory of it's heyday from 1892 untill the 1930's. The next step is to insulate the attic and windows and install electric wiring for the anticipated lighting and electrical needs. These all important first steps will allow plaster on the walls and ceiling to be repaired over the winter months. In the spring the painting of the walls and ceiling, the stenciling on the walls, and the refinishing of the floors and seating can begin.

In order to meet Wood County fire codes, the fire escape needs to be shored up and covered, a fire retarding curtain installed behind the present antique drop curtain and the second floor entrance needs to be enlarged and fire doors installed. This is the most expensive phase of the restoration project.

Funding goal revised. The Opera House Restoration Committee has reviewed the original restoration plans and cost estimates. The committee was able to revise their financial needs downward. The greatest reduction is in labor costs as they will be relying heavily on volunteer labor.

Another example of cost reduction; the original projected cost of the heating system was $46,000 and the actual cost was only $19,500. Since the Opera House Restoration Committee was first formed they have raised over half the funds needed for the project. However, another $40,000 is still needed to finish the project. The committee is working hard to contain costs and to restore the Pemberville Opera House to its original glory.

The Pemberville Opera House belongs to the citizens of Pemberville.
A dedicated group of area residents make up the Opera House Restoration Committee under the auspices of the Historical Society. If you would like to be part of this dynamic and dedicated group, contact a committee member.

It is our vision and goal to see the Opera House restored and used by the citizens of Pemberville.
