A Different Drummer
The Autobiography of Don Dutton

Four sisters, my mom, and me in the small house was an education for a young boy.  My father worked nights and I only saw him on weekends.
Work was the order of the day, every day.  When I was 10, I went to work for my dad at the family gas station and garage.  My father always told me to get a good education and go to college so I didn't have to get dirty working on cars.
So I went to college and went to college some more.  I earned an AA degree at Grossmont College and a BA degree at Sonoma State University.  Later I earned an MS degree at National University here in San Diego.
I have always enjoyed school and learning.  It was natural for me to be a teacher.
These days with my wife and son I live in La Mesa.  I enjoy sports and working around my house.
I love my job.  I think adult education offers a great service to our communities.  I am currently President-Elect of the California Council for Adult Education (CCAE).  This volunteer  association helps students, teachers, administrators, and staff with adult education legislation, training, communication, and professionalism throughout the state.
