Angus and Donna
St. John's Ambulance
Pet Therapy Tean
When I etired from conformation dog showing. ( It wasn't fun any more - too much politics involved.) it was time to move on to something which I found more rewarding.
I wanted to do something different. I wanted to make a difference in people's lives.
Angus has since crossed the "Rainbow Bridge at the age of  eight and a half.)That's a pretty good age for an Irish Wolfhound. Angus was a certified St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog.
The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program is a volunteer community service provided by St. John Ambulance, a not-for-profit registered charity.
This program was started in 1992 and has seen rapid growth across Canada. The program reaches thousands of people on a regular basis and has expanded throughout Canada.
Great care is taken in the selection of the dogs. All dogs are tested for temperament and must be annually certified by their Veterinarians as being up-to-date on all vacinations and in good general health.
What do these dogs do? Just what they've been doing for centuries, offering unconditional love and friendship to the sick lonely and helpless.
Dogs are non-judgmental. They are undeterred by human frailties and accept human illness, challenges, confusion or tears. They calm the distressed, distract the pain-ridden and comfort the despondent.
