It has been a year of change at the Penobscot Fire Department.  After 23 years as
Chief,  Bim Snow retired at the end of April 2007.   I took over on May 7th as Chief and we were
called to a structure fire in Orland the next morning.
A lot of my focus has been to get our procedures in place and to identify the
training required by the State, OSHA, and other government bodies.   Most of this required
training will take place in the first quarter of 2008.
Penobscot Days 2007 was alot of fun.  Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to
those who took the time to make a float.   Also thanks to Rebecca Orcutt for allowing the
fireworks on her property.   We could not afford to do Penobscot Days without the
financial support of our local businesses and friends.  Please join me in thanking   Bayview Takeout,
Harry Webbers Garage,  Northern Bay Market,  J.P.Berzinin,  Bagaduce Lunch,  David Gross,
Downeast Graphics,  C&G Growers,  Robert L.Gray P&H,  Jessie Leach,  Downeast Boats,
G.M.Allen & Sons,  Kendrick Wight Disposal,  James Gross,  Arey's Self Storage & Nursery,
Builders Homer Lowell, Lenny Bridges and Jim Dinnen,  Devereau Marine,  Andy Birdsall,
Steve Elliot's Newland Nursery,  Gerry Freeman's Brass Fox,   Eggemoggn Country Store,
and everyone else who helped but are not listed.  Thanks !
Our fundrasing went well this year.  We did our last Perkinstock 50-50 tickets.    We did
pull tickets at the Blue Hill Fair,  Kayak Raffle, fuel and wood raffle, Hunters Breakfast and our
newsletter drive.   Thanks to all that supported any or all of these.  We didn't do the auction as
the vast majority of firefighters diden't want it.
At Christmas time we delivered 60 fruit baskets to our friends and had a great
visit with most of them.  Mrs. Belinsky, you made my day !
Our department is solid with about 25 active members,  11 are FF-1 trained.  Dan McCall
is currently taking a Hancock County FF-1 course that involvs over 200 hours of Training.
We still could use some good people though.  We can always use pump operators, truck drivers,
traffic controllers, and people who will just give us a hand.   We also really need a dispatcher.  If
you know of someone, please have them join us any Monday night starting about 6:00pm or have
them give me a call.
For burning permits,  please call Town Fire Warden, Bim Snow, at 326-4252 or assistant
warden John Snow at 326-8822.   Permit are also available on Monday nights at the
fire station between 5:30 and 7:30.   Call 326-4296 to ensure we are not out training.   If there
is anything i can do for you,  Call me at 326-4885 or 359-2125.      Proud to be your Chief.
