| Gilford- April 2004 Collin Henry, Penobscot Sophmore at George Stevens Acadmey, struck out 17 and walked only 2 at Friday's game at Piscataquis Community Highschool in Gilford. Collin threw 71 strikes out of 98 pitches during his complete game with six hitters, and striking out the last 6 hitters at bat. According to the BANGOR DAILY NEWS article (April 23-24,2004) , Collin was getting stronger as the game went on. " He was hitting his spots for the most part, and his curveball was breaking as well as I've seen before". Harrison Hines told BDN sports reporter Ernie Clark. As the article reads, Henry induced seven called third strikes, often with backdoor breaking pitches that started outside the strike zone but caught the corner as they crossed the plate, fooling the PCHS lineup that included only three seniors. Henry was backed by a 13 hit offense, with each of the first five batters in the GSA lineup getting at least two hits. Roy Burdin, a sophmore at PCHS allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, then held GSA scoreless until the fifth inning when he left the mound after hitting Sam Bridges. Penobscot has three players on the GSA team; Henry, Bridges and Peake. Go Back to Penobscot Sports Homepage |
