CHARLES D. LAYTON

Staff Sergeant Charles D. Layton distinguished himself by meritorious service as a Loading Standardization Crew Member and Armament Systems Specialist, 6586th Test Squadron, 6585th Test Group, Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, from 7 January 1984 to 29 April 1989. During this period, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership and technical skills while supporting development of the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile project. Sergeant Layton's strict management of assigned Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment has resulted in an accumulative pass rate of 96 percent. This, along with his positive supervision, led to his section being rated outstanding during a recent Maintenance Assistance Visit. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Layton reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

CHARLES D. LAYTON

Staff Sergeant Charles D. Layton distinguished himself by meritorious service as a Weapons Load Crew Chief, 612th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, 401st Aircraft Generation Squadron, 401st Fighter Wing, Torrejon Air Base, Spain, from 2 May 1989 to 9 January 1992. During this period, the sustained superior efforts of Sergeant Layton resulted in a highly effective F-16 weapons system. While deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, in support of Exercise DISPLAY DETERMINATION 90, he maintained six aircraft at peak effiency. His consistant quality maintenance yielded a 99.5 percent weapons release rate, and significantly enhanced the overall success of the multi-nation exercise. His knowledge of other United States Air Force aircraft was instrumental to the 7440th Composite Wing (Provisional), and its wartime mission. He assisted in the launch and recovery of another unit's F-4G and F-16 Wild Weasel aircraft while their maintenance personel were still en route. His superb efforts allowed critically needed aircraft to fly their scheduled combat sorties, The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Layton reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
