DEPARTMENT of RHODE ISLAND
SONS of UNION VETERANS of the CIVIL WAR

Rhode Island Department Graves Registration Program

The Department Graves Registration Officer is setting up a database that would allow a search to locate the Veterans grave by his name, the name of the unit he fought in, or the name of the cemetery in which he is buried. We are collecting information from different sources and unfortunately, most are old and had errors in them at the start. Some of the names were spelled wrong, listed in wrong units, and directions to the cemeteries vague.

Any information given to us can help and this will work towards our goal of flagging every Civil War Veterans grave before Memorial Day. This is a goal that will not happen next year or the following one. But each month goes by with added data and I can see more forgotten graves being flagged.

The database is not online, and is only at 20 percent to date. We can help locate some of the gravesites, or provide additional information on Rhode Island Civil War Veterans. Contact Rhode Island Graves Registration Officer, Leo F. Kennedy for research or information. Leave as much information as possible to best trace the Veteran.
